The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is undertaking Quality Reforms including the revision of the Standards for Registered Training Organisation (2015).
The Standards for RTOs determine the trainer credentials required to deliver and/or assess nationally accredited training products.
The estimated date for implementation of the new Standards is 1 January 2025.
In the current draft form, the Standards identify that trainers and assessors can hold the following credentials to deliver and assess:
- TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (its successor which is the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment)
- The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the two units TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools (or previous equivalent versions of these two units)
- A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education
DEWR have advised that there will likely be a one-year transition from the current Standards to the new Standards.
The Draft Standards for RTOs can be viewed on the DEWR website

What about Skill Sets?
The release of the TAE Training Package in December introduced new and updated Skill Sets.
For those wishing to conduct assessment in the VET sector, the TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set its successor is required. The TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set is deemed as the Assessor.
Our next five day course commences 8 May in Belmont. This Skill Set is a great introduction to the National Register of VET, conducting assessment and participating in validation.
If you are seeking to deliver nationally accredited training under supervision, the TAESS00014 Enterprise Trainer-Presenting Skill Set its successor is required.
Trainwest are delivering the TAESS00028 Work Skill Instructor Skill Set, the successor to the TAESS00014, from June 2023.
