Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - Upgrade Course (Gap Units)

For those holding TAE40110 (including TAELLN411 and TAEASS502) and needing to upgrade to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Overview

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment program is designed to reflect the roles of VET professionals who deliver training and assessment services.

This upgrade course has been developed for holders of the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment who require gap training for the non equivalent units of competency.

This upgrade course is suitable for those who hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and:

  • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills unit (or its predecessor)
  • TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools unit (or its predecessor).

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment meets the requirements to deliver and assess nationally accredited training in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

 

TRANSITION

This qualification has been superseded by TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Students have 12 months to complete their qualification (Trainwest can issue up to 7 December 2023).

RECOMMENDED FOR

As of March 2024 trainers and assessors must hold:

  • TAE40116/TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or its successor)

or

  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the following units:
    • TAELLN411 (or its successor) or TAELLN401A, and
    • TAEASS502 (or its successor) or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B.

or

  • a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

or

  • a credential issued by a higher education provider (as defined by section 16-1 of the Higher Education Support Act 2003) which would enable the individual to satisfy the academic requirements for registration as a secondary school teacher in accordance with the registration requirements in at least one State or Territory, and one of the following credentials or the successor to one of the following credentials:
    • TAESS00011/TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or
    • TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students must display vocational competency in their proposed area of teaching and assessing. The term “vocational competency” refers to a broad knowledge and experience of the industry. It can include, but is not limited to, the attainment of a relevant qualification or unit of competency.

Eligible students must have:

  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, or its predecessor
  • TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools, or its predecessor.

Units

This course enables holders of the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to complete gap training for non-equivalent units which are:

  • TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes
  • TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation.

The remaining eight units are equivalent units of competencies and will be credit transferred upon verification of your TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Delivery

DELIVERY STRUCTURE

Face-to-Face

This course is delivered over four days of face-to-face training.

In-House Training

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

This course is competency-based. Students will have on-the-job activities and assessments to complete externally to the training room, which will provide evidence that they have understood the training and applied it to the workplace.

Students are required to complete assessment tasks for each unit which typically include:

  • Knowledge-based questions demonstrating application of required knowledge
  • Video and audio evidence of practical demonstrations
  • Workplace projects.

 

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

RPL is an assessment based pathway and is suitable for those who already have the skills and knowledge in one or more of the areas which make up the qualification and do not wish to undergo further training.

For those considering RPL please speak with our Student Services Team. They will make an initial assessment of suitability and discuss the RPL process before sending an application kit.

 

SUPPORT SERVICES

Trainwest provides ongoing support to students throughout the duration of the program via email and telephone. We also offer post course support workshops at no additional charge which will provide students with the opportunity to have time away from the workplace to work on assessments with support from the Trainwest Trainer/Assessor.

Students have access to two 30 minutes one-on-one coaching free of charge. Additional one-on-one coaching is available at an hourly rate for those who need it.
